Dear Families:
Officials from the US Department of State and the Russian Federation have been meeting each month since May to hammer out a bilateral agreement between the two countries affecting international adoption. All talks have been productive and it is anticipated that an agreement will be finalized as early as December 2010. Adoption Tax Credit news!

More news on the adoption tax credit! The credit was raised in 2010 by the health care bill, and raised for 2011 by the tax code revisions in December 2010. The credit has been increased and made refundable – this means that the total amount of the credit will be returned to eligible adoptive parents regardless of their tax liability. This is a SIGNIFICANT change from the past and has only been authorized by Congress for 2010 and 2011.

Adoption tax credits CAN be taken on international as well as domestic adoptions. Please seek advice from your tax preparer if you have spent any monies on adoption in 2010 or earlier!

Children available for adoption in Russia reside in orphanages. In the Russian Federation, accredited agencies are permitted to engage in international adoption activity. Beacon House has been one of these elite agencies since 2001. Our most recent, and non-expiring accreditation was received on January 28, 2008.
