Pre-Adoption Prep

Prospective adoptive families
There is an overwhelming amount of information available about adoption on the internet. Sometimes talking to a real person, one who is experienced and been there/ done that can be me the most helpful. At the Beacon House Information Center, we can assist you in deciding which type adoption is right for you; based on the age of the child you want to adopt, program requirements, your expectations, and which child you can parent.

Families currently in the adoption process
Once you have decided to adopt, it can be a wonderfully exciting, scary time. Our families complete a number of hours of Hague compliant, pre-adoption education classes to assist in preparing for the arrival of their child. While your Case Manager is there to help you every step of the way, you may occasionally have additional questions that can be addressed through the Information Center.

Pre-Adoption Education

Russian Adoptive Families
Adopting from Russia requires certain educational, cultural, developmental and medical awareness in order to best prepare for the arrival of your child. Proper preparation is essential to the success of the placement and we believe it is critical for adoptive parents to develop an understanding of international adoption. We require families to participate in in the Hague complaint, ten- hour training program, Because They Waited from Heart of the Matters Seminars. This online program is completed in the convenience of your own home, before you finish your homestudy.

Additionally, we offer the Parents in Progress program for Beacon House families in the process of adopting from Russia. Offered monthly, these webinars cover a variety of adoption topics. Help We Are Adopting is A 90 minute webinar, exclusively for Beacon House Russian Parents in Progress that is offered quarterly.

On alternating months the Parents in Progress workshops include presentations on the role of the international adoption specialist, speech and language development, minor correctable versus special needs, to name a few.

Pre-adoption Education is provided to BH families at no additional cost.
